What is Knee Replacement?

Knee replacement, or knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to replace damaged or worn-out knee joint surfaces with artificial implants. It is most commonly performed in patients suffering from advanced osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or severe knee injury. The surgery helps relieve pain, restore mobility, and significantly improve the quality of life.

Common Symptoms That May Require Knee Replacement:

  • Persistent knee pain, even during rest or at night

  • Difficulty walking, climbing stairs, or standing up from a chair

  • Swelling and inflammation around the knee

  • Stiffness and reduced range of motion

  • A grinding or popping sensation in the joint

  • Bowing of the knee (inward or outward)

  • Dependence on painkillers for daily activities

  • Poor results or no relief from physiotherapy or medications

How is the Treatment Done?

Dr. Amandeep Singh Narang begins the process with a detailed consultation, physical examination, and imaging tests such as X-rays. If conservative treatments like medications, injections, or physiotherapy have failed, and the knee joint is severely damaged, surgery may be recommended.

Using advanced, minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Narang performs knee replacement surgery under anesthesia. The damaged joint surfaces are replaced with durable artificial implants designed to mimic natural knee movement. The surgery typically takes 1–2 hours.

Post-surgery, patients begin walking within 24–48 hours and follow a personalized rehabilitation plan to strengthen the joint and regain mobility.
